Yealands have been named as one of the overall category winners, receiving the Marlborough 2016 Pinot Gris Wine of the Year award, at the 2017 Melbourne International Wine Competition for their 2016 Peter Yealands Pinot Gris.
The Melbourne International Wine Competition is the first major international wine competition where the panel solely consists of judges from the trade, including buyers from top retail stores, sommeliers, restaurant owners, hotel beverage directors, distributors and importers. Now in its fourth year, the competition received over 1,100 submissions from more than ten countries, with entries across 50+ categories.
"We love Pinot Gris here at Yealands, it thrives in our coastal location and like all aromatic varieties performs best in a cool climate,” says Jeff Fyfe, Chief Winemaker for Yealands. “We have a unique clone of Pinot Gris planted, which is known for its very small berries and thick skins, creating juice with amazing concentration. It’s fantastic to have been named as the Marlborough 2016 Pinot Gris category winner.”
Yealands received ten medals in total, including a Gold Medal for their 2016 Yealands Estate Single Vineyard Pinot Noir Rosé.
