Awatere Valley

Willow Flat & Seaview

Our Seaview Vineyard is the most coastal vineyard in New Zealand and experiences some fairly harsh conditions as a result. It produces small, thick-skinned berries with intense flavours. In comparison, our Willow Flat Vineyard is further inland with reduced coastal influences, and creates a much sweeter fruit.

Two Distinct Vineyards

This Pinot Noir was harvested from two of our vineyards in the Awatere Valley; Seaview Vineyard and Willow Flat. 

The fruit was harvested in excellent condition and the resulting wine is showing lifted fruit flavours in the red berry spectrum.

The low yielding Pinot Noir blocks were harvested at optimum ripeness. All clones were harvested and made separately.

A portion went to a mixture of new and older French oak barriques to undergo malolactic fermentation and to age.

Winemaker's Notes

Elegance & Balance

The parcels were cold macerated at 6 - 8 degrees for around five days before being warmed and inoculated with selected yeasts. A fast, hot fermentation proceeded with regular and gentle mixing of the juice over the skins, which has helped to craft a wine with elegance and balance.
