Seaview Vineyard

Awatere Valley

Our Seaview Vineyard in the Awatere Valley is exposed to some of the toughest growing conditions in Marlborough; high sunshine and wind, cool nights and low rainfall which produces a smaller, thicker skinned berry with intense fruit flavours.

Exposed Terrace

This wine is sourced from a block situated on the upper ridge of our Seaview Vineyard. This block is situated on a relatively exposed terrace and mainly consists of a mix of Dijon Clones.

The unique micro climate within this block ensures low yields which consistently produces Pinot Noir with good structure and flavour.

Post primary fermentation the parcels were gently pressed off, settled for 24 hours then racked off heavy lees and aged in 20% new French oak barriques. The wine remained in oak for 12 months and was then stabilised and filtered prior to bottling.

Winemaker's Notes

Hot Fermentation

The low yielding Pinot Noir was picked when a sufficient level of ripeness was achieved. The parcels were cold macerated at 6–8 degrees for six days before being warmed and inoculated with selected yeast. A fast, hot fermentation proceeded with regular hand plunging to craft a wine with elegance and structure.

Tasting Notes

Luscious Dark Cherry

The palate is full and structured, yet elegant with flavours of luscious dark cherry balanced with a fine mineral acidity. It matches beautifully with red meat dishes, including venison and lamb.

Food Pairings

Excellent with red meat, including venison and lamb, and of course with Honey Glazed Char Siu!

Even, light ruby-red colour with a little purple, paler edged. This has an elegantly concentrated, firm and intense nose with a core of dark raspberry fruit unfolding suggestions of dark herbs and liquorice, dark-red florals and raspberry liqueur. Medium-full bodied, the palate has a deeply concentrated core of ripe, dark-red berry and cherry fruit along with notes of raspberry liqueur, dark herbs and nuances of liquorice. Raspberry liqueur notes emerge to add to the richness. The fruit is supported by fine-grained tannin extraction providing a positive line, with integrated acidity lending harmony. The wine carries to a long, lingering finish of dark raspberry fruit. This is a rich and well-concentrated Pinot Noir with flavours of dark raspberries and raspberry liqueur on a positive, fine-textured palate.
